Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director

Dr. Frederick B. “Rick” Carlton is the Program Director for the Relias Healthcare Emergency Medicine Fellowship. He joined Relias in 2026 to continue the growth of the fellowship program. A highly respected emergency physician and educator, Dr. Carlton brings more than four decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in emergency medicine.

Dr. Carlton previously served as an Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director and has spent much of his career training the next generation of emergency physicians. He has held numerous academic appointments, including Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and other medical institutions, and has played a key role in advancing emergency medicine education and rural emergency care.

Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine, Dr. Carlton has been deeply involved in national and regional emergency medicine leadership, including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors. Through the Relias Healthcare EM Fellowship, he now focuses on educating and mentoring physicians in the practice of emergency medicine.
