
Relias Healthcare Names Dr. Rick Carlton Program Director of Emergency Medicine Fellowship
Relias Healthcare has appointed Dr. Frederick B. “Rick” Carlton as Program Director of its Emergency Medicine Fellowship program, a strategic move that deepens the organization’s investment in physician education and strengthens access to high-quality emergency care in community and rural settings.
A Career Defined by Clinical Excellence and Physician Development
Dr. Carlton brings more than 40 years of experience in emergency medicine, academic medicine, and healthcare leadership. His career spans clinical practice, residency education, and national advocacy, making him one of the most seasoned emergency medicine educators in the field.
Before joining Relias Healthcare, Dr. Carlton served as an Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director and held faculty appointments including Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. His academic and clinical contributions have directly shaped emergency medicine training standards and expanded access to quality care in rural and underserved communities across the region.
Board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine, Dr. Carlton has held leadership roles in nationally recognized professional organizations, including the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) and currently serves on the Mississippi State Board of Health.

In his new role, Dr. Carlton will guide the strategic direction and curriculum of the Relias Healthcare Emergency Medicine Fellowship, a program designed to develop practice-ready physicians equipped for today’s complex healthcare environment.
