Brian Roberts, MD
Brian W. Roberts, MD, MSc is a physician scientist and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Roberts is a practicing board-certified emergency medicine physician, and a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical researcher with more than 40 publications in the scientific literature, primarily in the field of resuscitation science. Dr. Roberts’ publications have been featured in prominent medical journals, such as: Circulation, Intensive Care Medicine, and Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open. His scientific program has been supported by research grants from the Emergency Medicine Foundation, American Heart Association, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, with Dr. Roberts serving in the role of Principal Investigator.
Currently, Dr. Roberts’ research is focused on a new field called “Compassionomics”, in which he is studying the scientific effects of compassion on patients, patient care, and those who care for patients. He is an author of the hypothesis paper Compassionomics: Hypothesis and experimental approach, the impetus for the best-selling book: Compassionomics: The Revolutionary Scientific Evidence that Caring Makes a Difference. Dr. Roberts also serves as study director for the Center for Humanism at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Broadly, Dr. Roberts’ mission is to make health care more compassionate through science.
Dr. Roberts is a graduate of Bucknell University. He earned his medical degree at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson with a Distinction in Service to the Community and Alpha Omega Alpha. During medical school Dr. Roberts received national awards for excellence in emergency medicine from both the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He completed his emergency medicine residency training and fellowship in resuscitation research at Cooper University Hospital. After fellowship Dr. Roberts earned a Master’s of Clinical Research and Translational Medicine at Temple University.
