Group Executive of Ventures and Innovation

Job Purpose

Relias’s core business is the delivery of emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and telemedicine solutions to health systems. To expand beyond our core business, Relias has developed Ventures to diversify its offerings and take advantage of the changing healthcare ecosystem. Ventures will align Relias to emerging trends in healthcare such as the movement away from the hospital to the home, deployment of technology as an enabler, and the shift from volume to value. The Director of Ventures and Innovation (Director) will lead all new ventures for Relias Healthcare and report to the Chief Operating Officer.

The Director will be responsible for the creation, development, and execution of all strategies in Ventures. The Director will deploy outpatient clinics (i.e., Urgent Care, Psychiatry/Mental Health) and physician enablement tools from initial ideation to implementation and on-going management. Currently, the Director would oversee at least four clinics and the implementation of multiple new clinics in the pipeline in 2024. The Director will manage the P&L and be responsible for the overall performance of the business unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

People

All Management and People Functions

  • Lead the development of a New Ventures strategy aligned with emerging healthcare trends.
  • Collaborate with the Relias Executive Team and Board on new ventures, innovative opportunities, and strategic alignment.
  • Build and manage the Ventures team, ensuring focus and execution on critical success factors.
  • Foster strong relationships between Relias and clinics, communicating wins and risks


Innovation

Ventures Growth and Strategy

  • Establish and maintain relationships with healthcare innovators in the local ecosystem and throughout the Southern US.
  • Generate and prioritize innovative opportunities.
  • Stand up new business initiatives and make them sustainable operations.
  • Create and implement the standard new ventures playbook, deploying it to each new initiative.
  • Identify and implement improvements using new technologies, workflows, processes, or structural changes.

  • Participate in due diligence on high-priority opportunities.
  • Identify optimal deal structures, negotiate deals, and shepherd them to closure.
  • Provide market research and data analytics to support decision-making.

  • Oversee the P&L of Ventures to achieve yearly goals and budgets.

  • Manage the overall portfolio of outpatient clinics to Relias Excellence standards.
  • Provide market research and data analytics to support go/no-go, buy or build decisions.


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of five (5) years of work experience in outpatient healthcare setting, health technology, or work within a health system is required; this work experience can have been acquired through work directly in these industries (whether in large or small companies) or through work experience in venture investing, management consulting, or investment banking.
  • A minimum of two (2) years working at a senior-level requiring managing complex initiatives, marshalling resources, and working independently with little oversight
  • Experience in the evaluation and execution of business development deals is preferred, as is a general understanding of prospecting, business assessment/valuation, pro-forma development, deal formation, and execution.
  • A demonstrated track record of high performance, academically and professionally, is preferred.
  • The ability to communicate well, both in oral and written form, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self-awareness are required. Preferred personality traits include industriousness, flexibility, and a high capacity for teamwork.
  • Existing knowledge of, and network in, the Gulf States’ (i.e., MS, AL, LA, etc.) ecosystem of healthcare innovators, operators, and investors is preferred.


Working Location

Director will work from Tupelo, MS with the team on a regular basis, but can perform many of the functions of this position remotely. Alternate locations can be negotiated.
