Dr. Mayer is the coauthor of Strauss and Mayer’s Emergency Department Management textbook and has written several books, including Battling Healthcare Burnout, which won the American College of Healthcare Executives’ prestigious James A. Hamilton Award for the best leadership book of 2022. Dr. Mayer has been the Medical Director of the NFL Players Association for 20 years and founded and successfully led a large, high-quality ED group. He has received several awards for his work, including the 2018 James D. Mills Award, one of the highest honors given by the American College of Emergency Physicians, and ACEP’s Outstanding Speaker of the Year award.
