Sumner Abraham, MD, FACP

Chief Medical Operating Officer

Dr. Sumner Abraham is the Chief Medical Operating Officer at Relias Healthcare (RH). He has built the Hospital Medicine programs at RH and works with our clinicians and hospital partners to continue to create innovative solutions on patient throughput and quality outcomes. He is a member of the American College of Physician Advisors and through chairing multiple UR committees is committed Hospital Medicine programs can create value through Utilization Review and Management efforts. Abraham is passionate about coaching clinicians and helping them emphasize the humanity in healthcare.

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Sumner completed undergraduate at Ole Miss in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College with a degree in Sociology. Abraham completed medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. Dr. Abraham was selected to serve as Chief Resident for the Department of Medicine at UVA and was awarded a Mullholland Society Teaching Award and the Anne L. Brodie Clinician Award.

Sumner and his wife Sarah are all thrilled to call Oxford home with their 3 children. Outside of RH, he is an Eagle Scout, member of Medvale, medical director for Arden Hospice, a founding partner of Circle & Square Brewing Company, serves on the City of Oxford Pathways Commission, and his family are active members of Christ Presbyterian Church. Dr. Abraham holds an Adjunct Instructional Assistant Professor position with the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and is adjunct clinical faculty with William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Baptist Health Sciences University.
